The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Stationery
As a wedding stationer and sign writer, I know how much thought and care goes into every detail of your big day. One of the most exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) parts of wedding planning is getting your stationery just right. From save the dates to wedding invitations, and all the beautiful on-the-day stationery, there’s so much to think about. But don’t worry—I’ve got you covered.
To help you navigate the world of wedding stationery, I’ve put together this ultimate guide…
When should I order my wedding stationery?
This is one of the most common questions I get. Here’s a handy timeline:
Save the Dates: The more guests you want to come to your wedding, the sooner you should send your Save the Dates. The “norm” is 6 to 12 months (closer to 12 if it’s a destination wedding) but there is nothing stopping you sending them before, if you’re ultra organised.
Invitations: Post your wedding invitations 3–6 months before the big day.
On-the-Day Stationery: Things like menus, place cards, and signage should be ordered at least 6 weeks before your wedding to allow time for design, printing, and delivery.
If you’re working with me, we’ll create a bespoke timeline so nothing feels rushed or stressful.
Do I need to send a save the date?
Save the dates are optional but incredibly helpful, especially if your wedding is during peak season or requires travel. They give your guests plenty of notice to mark their calendars and make arrangements. Plus, they’re a lovely sneak peek at your wedding style!
What happens if there are last-minute changes?
While signage is flexible and can be updated closer to the day, stationery has a cut-off point for printing and delivery. If you think changes might happen, let me know early on so we can plan around it. For instance, we could include an RSVP deadline that gives you enough time to finalise your guest list.
How can we make our wedding stationery more sustainable?
Sustainability is a big focus for me at Inviting Writing. Here are a few ideas:
Use recycled or FSC-certified paper.
Opt for digital RSVPs (more on that later).
Consider minimal packaging or reusable materials such as mirrors or wood.
I’m happy to discuss eco-friendly options that match your vision without compromising on style. Check out more in my blog post How To Make Your Wedding Signage Sustainable
What do we need to include in our wedding invitation?
Your wedding invitation is more than just the details—it’s a reflection of your big day. To make sure you’ve covered everything, check out my blog post: What to Include in Your Wedding Invitations.
Do we send an invitation even if we know someone can’t come?
Absolutely, yes! Even if someone can’t attend, sending them an invitation shows that you value their presence in your life. It’s a kind and thoughtful gesture that allows them to celebrate your wedding from afar.
How do we collect RSVPs?
I offer a wedding website and RSVP service to make this super easy for you. Guests can RSVP online, which helps you keep everything organised in one place. Consider creating a wedding email address, or stick to just one method of RSVP, if you don’t wish to set something up. If you prefer traditional RSVP cards, we can design those to complement your invitations.
How do we choose the perfect wedding stationery design?
Think about your wedding theme, colours, and overall vibe. Do you want something classic and elegant or bold and modern? As your stationer, I’ll guide you through design options to create stationery that feels uniquely you. Browse some of my designs here
What is “on-the-day stationery”, and do we need it?
On-the-day stationery includes items like table plans, place cards, menus, and signage. Some are not strictly essential, however when it comes to seating more that 20 people, table plans are an absolute must-have item. These details help set the tone and keep everything running smoothly. Plus, they’re a fantastic way to add personal touches to your decor.
How do we tie everything together?
Consistency is key! From your save the dates to your thank-you cards, your stationery should tell a cohesive story. By working with one stationer for everything, you’ll create a seamless look that ties all the elements of your wedding together beautifully.
Planning your wedding stationery doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right guidance (that’s where I come in!), it can be one of the most enjoyable parts of your wedding journey. Did you know, I used to be a wedding coordinator?! So I feel like I can definitely give you a guide in the right direction.
